Other Sea Users
As well as mineral extraction, the seas around the UK support a variety of other coastal and offshore industries. These include commercial fishing, shipping, cable and pipeline laying, oil and gas extraction, waste disposal, offshore renewable energy, recreation, and use for military exercise. Each of these industries involve different aspects of the marine resource. The following pages provide a summary of the potential impact of marine aggregate extraction on these other users of the sea, both individually and cumulatively, as well as considering good practice monitoring and mitigation measures.
